The festival represents an opportunity for all communities to unite in an energetic celebration of change and renewal, to learn about our history and the history of human migration, and to honor a culture which has roots throughout California. During our Celebration, we feature a diverse presentation of music, dance performances, art, cuisine and other cultural aspects that explore Mexico and Latin America’s rich cultural heritage and history and the ancestral roots of California.
Solano AIDS Coalition in conjunction with the City of Benicia and Benicia Unified School District hosted this event to not only welcome spring, but in order to shed light on an ongoing racist activity practiced by Benicia High School Students called "La Migra Game" The game traditionally occurs during spring break and entails seniors at the school grabbing lower classmen and taking them to undisclosed locations. They then take on the role of ICE agents by calling their fellow students “illegals” and other racial slurs.
The Fiestas Primavera event featured a large arts pavilion featuring art from local artists representing Latinx Culture.
